"Mikey isn't dumb, he's really smart." Raphael disagreed, unsure why someone so smart fell because Luci always told him silly boys fell. Maybe you could be silly and smart. He took a bite of his breakfast and then looked at Gabriel. "They also use frozen peas."
"We can afford neither right now." Michael agreed as he looked at his phone again and texted Lucifer back swiftly.
No.
"Besides, I iced it yesterday. I'm feeling pretty good." He wasn't, his face hurt and his chest and stomach hurt any time he bent forward or move too suddenly. Not that he was admitting to that. "No steaks, no peas." He paused and looked at Lucifer. No names.
He felt that much was obvious. Really, it was a miracle he could even walk if he'd been bashed yesterday. Lucius wanted to know the names to make them hurt and to also mock them for being wimps.
"We could freeze peas. We have a freezer. Frozen peas are not very expensive." Gabriel was noting some of the obvious and also telling Raphael, so he'd know. "You don't look good, Michael."
"Are you going to go to the hospital?" Raphael asked with wide, terrified eyes. Michael sighed and gestured at Raphael pointedly, hoping Lucifer took the damn hint. Ah, gesturing hurt, he winced and then awkwardly reached out to pat Raphael's head.
"You're upsetting Raphael. If I say I'm fine, I'm fine. Honestly, Raphie, it's all good. I'm fine." Michael smiled at the boy and then got up from his seat, walking over to get some coffee and get some space from the questions. This was going to be a long week.
How the fuck was he supposed to avoid homophobic assholes in a small town?
"He's gotta lie down and then he'll be good as new. I'm taking you out today, lil guy." Lucifer ruffled Raphael's hair.
"You'll feel better soon. Bruises fade." Gabriel hoped he was helping. He wasn't really sure though. "You have a message from Bobby." He'd seen the name pop up when the message arrived.
Ah, fuck! Michael hurried back with his coffee, taking his phone before Gabriel could read anything else on the screen. "Ah, that will be about the--the house... repairs."
Oh Bobby, you sly bastard. He was still working him. Michael smiled despite himself.
I'll lie back and think of you <3
"He fixed our roof." Raphael informed Lucifer as he chewed on his spoon. "Can we go to the park and feed duckies today?"
Lucifer was watching Michael, eyebrows arching up. That smile. It was definitely just a text, so it couldn't have been a nice picture. What was going on there? "Got something nice from Bobby?"
Looking at Raphael, he considered and then nodded. "Yeah, sure. We can go feed duckies and pick flowers. Have an extra manly day."
"I'm going to go to football training," Gabriel announced to no one's surprise.
You can do two things. Maybe you should swing by later and check in on me.
"Just organising when he should come over and look at the other leak." Michael dismissed as he finished texting and set his phone aside, picking up his coffee instead. "Gabriel, try to be back at 6 today. No later, alright?"
Bobby had warned him there was a lot of crystal meth around here so he was trying to make sure Gabriel wasn't staying out late in bad crowds.
"I'll bring you home some flowers." Raphael promised Gabriel, excited for his day of flower picking and duckie watching.
"Oh yeah, Bobby is going to hook us up with a daycare for Raphie."
"Wow. There's nothing Bobby can't do, eh?" Lucifer figured it helped that he likely knew everyone in town. Still, it bothered him right now because he knew Michael was keeping things from him. "I'll only bring you flowers if you answer some questions later," he threatened, just to let Michael know that he wasn't letting this go.
"I'll be home by five thirty. I want to get my flowers." Gabriel held a hand out to Raphael so they could shake on it. "I look forward to my flowers, little man. Say hello to all the duckies."
"I will. I'll tell them you miss them." Gabriel came to the duckies when it was Saturday but not during school times. Sadly. He had no clue what a daycare was or what that meant but he didn't mind. As long as Luci came with him. Raphael didn't shake, he just held Gabriel's hand.
"You know, flowers are very no strings attached. It's shitty to make demands to get flowers." Michael pointed out as he rolled his eyes as his younger brother, not willing to give him what he wanted. Michael would escalate, he always made the situation worse.

Lucifer smiled serenely at his big brother and then looked at Raphael. "Yeah, your big bro's just clumsy. Bit of a dumb-dumb, don't you think?"
Gabriel was looking at Michael with concern. "Have you tried putting a steak on it? They do that in cartoons."
"If we could afford steak, we'd cook it, not decorate Mikey." Lucifer felt that was fair enough.
